Put your best foot forward! We are slowly getting back to a more civilized life outside of our homes.  So why not step out in style. I’m sharing a 6 Shoe Trends for Summer 2021 that I found worth clicking your heels about.

Sneakers

Oh yes! This fun comfortable shoe gives us support with a statement. Take advantage of this sporty look for when you are going to be on your feet a long time. Personally, I like the look of pairing sneakers with a dress or a midi skirt for a fun casual look.

Ballet Flats 

Take advantage of wearing a comfortable classic style. The newer modern day flats come with bows, and embellishments which work  to make any outfit complete. I think ballet flats pair nicely with cropped pants or bermuda shorts. 

Flatforms 

I have a few pairs of flatforms and I like how they give me height. They will also elongate your legs. And, they are an alternate option to wearing wedges. Some have buckles, while others have velcro. Either way, it’s a funky looking shoe that will add a cool vibe to your style. I would pair them with a t-shirt dress or loose fitting tie waisted pants. 

Slides/Mules 

As always comfort is key, and so is convenience. Just slip on and head out the door. This season’s styles are not boring,  as we are seeing bright pops of color and fun fabrics. Great for when your pedicure needs a refresh too! Really anything goes here. Slides work with shorts, skinny jeans and fun summer skirts and dresses 

Flip Flops 

Floral pops, metal studs, jellies. Suddenly flip pops are no longer just meant for the beach. Cute embellishments,have changed up where and when we slide into a pair. I have this pair that I found on Amazon and love. While they are not necessarily the most supportive shoe, I love the cute bow and fun detail. They also come in a variety of colors. I have had mine for over a year and get plenty of use from them. They offer a feminie appeal with a casual comfort. 

Strappy Sandals

What is nice about this season’s dressy sandals is that they to can be comfortable. Square toes and block heels can be girly looking for evening without making your feet hurt. A great choice for date nights and weddings as they look nice with evening dresses, fancy slacks and flowy skirts.

We owe it to ourselves to dust off our fun clothes and treat ourselves to a pair of new shoes. It’s a great way to lift your spirits after spending a lot of time in our slippers last year.

Taking on a new adventure

I never would have imagined a few years back that when I turned 60 that I would be adding new chapters to my life. We are never too old to reinvent ourselves, and age should never limit our choices. I have some exciting news to share with you all, I got a job! It’s been almost four years since I last worked outside of doing my blog. On a recent whim, I decided to answer a job post that I saw on Indeed. The job is for a club level concierge at a luxurious five-star hotel in Naples. I felt comfortable applying because of my previous experience in the hospitality industry. However, in May I will turn 64 years old and I was almost certain that my age would be a deterrent. Within days after I having sent in my resume, I received a phone call to come in for an interview. After a brief phone interview, I was then asked to go in for an in-person interview.  Of course, I carefully thought about what to wear! I needed to find something that was business appropriate, as most of my work clothes are in storage back in Chicago. Upon my arrival at the hotel, I was pleasantly reminded of my years working for Hyatt Corporation back in the 70’s. Those were good times and I formed many long-lasting friendships. I was slowly getting hooked…

I was first interviewed by one person who then brought in another gentleman to meet with me. This person asked me to meet with the General Manager of the hotel. Three interviews later I was offered the job! But here was the catch, it was a full-time position, and I was hoping to only work part time.

I had about one week before I started my orientation. During this time, I often wondered if I was making the right decision. Going back to work full time requires a lot. And, I will admit, I was used to enjoying my social life and down time. My thoughts were to give this job a try because if I did not, I would certainly regret the decision. After all, it sounded like a fun job to have. And I’m definitely a people person!

The first week of work I put in over 40 hours. I was both physically and mentally tired. Again, I wondered if I had made the right decision. But, then I realized every time I went to work, I was happy to be there. Everyone was nice to me and I liked meeting the travelers and talking with them.  

Though it may take a little time to re-adjust my routine, I think this job is going to work out well for me. It helps that my husband is being incredibly supportive even though I’m not cooking him meals like I used to. Now, instead of being together constantly we are making the most of my days off. I never would have imagined a few years back when I turned 60 that I would be writing a blog and starting a new career in the years to come. I feel liberated and I’m excited to add a new chapter in my life. We are never too old to reinvent ourselves, and age should never limit our choices. If by chance I decide to leave this position I will remain proud that I gave it a shot.

April Showers bring May flowers, right? To my friends up in the Midwest, I know that you are receiving a lot of rain this week. If you are looking for a nice, light weight rain jacket with a hood, look no further! This versatile lightweight jacket is a keeper for me because it works great in colder Florida weather as well as the spring days up North. My daughter-in-law found this jacket on sale at Nordstrom and today, I am sharing it with you!

The camo-like star print instantly caught my eye. It’s a nice lightweight jacket with a removable hood. And perfect to wear on those spring days that see a lot of rain. An added bonus is that it has a lot of pockets. In my opinion, it does run true to size, I am wearing a size small. It gives just enough room to layer a sweater or sweatshirt underneath if you want to. Plus the jacket has adjustable toggles at the waist if you desire a more fitted look.

I wore the jacket in these photos with a pair of skinny jeans and wedge booties to grab a coffee while visiting my daughter. You can easily pair it with a more casual look of leggings and sneakers too. Or even the classic leather leggings!

Trench coats have been worn for decades and this jacket puts a little trendy twist on the classic style coat. This jacket certainly doesn’t have an age limit but does have my stamp of approval.

Aging Dangerously with a Positive Mindset

At the age of 63, I see myself with more confidence and a clearer perception of who I am. It’s time to make the most of life. With no health guarantees, we should appreciate life every single day as a gift. Let your light shine through! #positive #aging #gracefully

The month of March is designated as Women’s History Month. In celebration of both Women’s history month and International Women’s Day on March 9th, I was honored to be featured by Aging But Dangerous, a group of International women over the age of 55 years old on Instagram. And, I was asked to write down my thoughts on “aging dangerously”. Many of you who know me personally, know that my life isn’t really lived too dangerously, however, I didn’t back down. Below are my thoughts on Aging Dangerously.

Defining who I am

I clearly remember turning 40 and thinking that it was the best time of my life. Ha! That was twenty plus years ago and I didn’t know better. I’ve realized that now is the time to embrace myself and who I am! I’m a woman who has hobbies, true lifelong girlfriends, loves to golf, and is obsessed with fashion. Back then if I was asked about myself, I would have said I was a mother, a wife, a daughter and a caregiver.

       “I thought more about what I did and my responsibilities, rather than who I really was.”

At the age of 63, I see myself with more confidence and a clearer perception of who I am. This is not about defying age. At this age, more than half of our life is over.  It’s time to make the most of life. If we don’t start enjoying ourselves now, it may be too late. With no health guarantees, we should appreciate life every single day as a gift.

I take chances. I step outside of my comfort zone. Now is the time to invest in improving your quality of life. Take time for self-care and finding joy in everything we do. I understand that we all have diverse situations that may prevent us from fully enjoying ourselves the way we may have envisioned. However, there will never be a perfect time. Like it or not, these are our golden years.

I’ve had my share of ups and downs but I choose to live my live with a positive mindset. I do not want to be defined by circumstances. I want to be recognized as someone that inspires and impresses upon others that there is always something to be grateful for.

It may not be easy to be the best version of yourself everyday but that’s ok, we just need to remember to always be kind to ourselves

When I was younger, I referred to readers as granny glasses. The styles were nondescript and frumpy, so I put off purchasing my first pair longer than I should have. I felt that most readers were old-fashioned looking. For this reason, I often squinted to read mail, held papers at arm’s length, and even asked my children to read something for me.

I was recently gifted these Coffee Shop Blue Light Reading Frames in grey. I liked the thick bold square frame, but also that they filter blue light.
