Summer Dresses from Shop National Clothing

I was recently introduced to ShopNational. An online shopping site devoted to helping women find classic and comfortable clothing at affordable pricing. And today I am sharing two dresses from their summer collection.

After browsing their site, this floral eyelet dress caught my eye. I thought that this pretty dress would be perfect for summer. The happy colorful print is perfect for casual get-togethers with friends. It’s comfy enough to be worn all day long. Yet stylish enough for an evening out dining al fresco. I also love the fact that it has pockets! I am wearing the PS since I am only 5’3″. For this look, I choose to pair the dress with wedges for a dressier vibe. But, I am planning on wearing the dress next with sneakers, as I am really liking that trend right now. And, I may even accessorize with a belt too to change up the look.

Next, I found this navy and white gingham checked sundress. It is the perfect choice for your upcoming Memorial Day festivities. A sun hat with a pop of red proudly displays my patriotic spirit. With it’s long flowy style, I know I will be comfortable and cool all day long. Even if the temperatures soar. Alternatively, the navy check also pairs well with yellow. Allowing you more opportunities to wear this dress all summer long.

In addition to this cute long-tiered dress what impressed upon me was the history behind Shop National.

Those of you that know me, know how important family is to me, as well as supporting family-owned businesses. The origin story of Shop National hit close to home. Founded almost seventy years ago by Eddie Smith. Eddie, an orphan, worked at a mail order company in Lexington, North Carolina while also attending night school. It was after WWII he noticed that many more women were entering the workforce, thus the need for more nylon stockings. Selling stockings by the dozen, his motto was to treat each customer as if it was your only customer. Soon after his success in selling hosiery he started to add clothing to his catalog sales.  After passing away at the age of 88 his daughter Lynda stepped in as president of the company. Lynda’s daughter Parker has also joined forces with her mom to enlighten shoppers through social media and a blog

Shop National is loyal to customers as well as giving back to their community with generous donations to help fund hospitals, cancer centers, and women’s shelters. 

Browsing through their website they offer flattering styles for a variety of figure types, and lifestyles.

Side note: While taking these photos two women came up to me and asked where I bought this dress because they thought it would also make a great bathing suit cover up.

I remember when I was in my early twenties and the trend was to have everything match. Your purse would match your shoes and your shoes matched your dress. Even the nail polish on my fingers and my toes matched perfectly. Fast forward, now that is considered old fashioned. If you want to update your look then you need to mix it all up. Today, am sharing 3 simple tricks for how to mix & match patterns. Let’s first start with patterns

I will admit that mixing prints took me awhile to figure this out. It can get tricky. I have a high school friend that hates to shop. She loves nice clothes but struggles with putting outfits together. She once told me that she liked to look at the mannequins in the store and just buy whatever they were wearing. Of course, that was long before stores provided personal shoppers. Regardless, I like art and dressing is a form of art. I enjoy it because in a way it takes creativity to find your unique style.

The number one rule is to like what you’re wearing. Because, if you don’t, it will reflect a negative image.  

Dress your truth, do not try to be someone you are not or dress to please others.

Looking your best does not mean that you need to spend a lot of money either. For one, that is not feasible. Or maybe you’re the type that doesn’t like to draw attention and prefer clothing that’s simple and understated.   

Pair Patterns that have at least 2 similar colors

When mixing patterns look at the colors. Find two colors that are the same in each piece. For example, I’m wearing this black geometric patterned skirt. Black and white are the predominant colors. I paired them with zebra patterned sling backs that are also black and white. Just look for patterns that have at least two similar colors. And mix the following patterns together.

  • Stripes and florals
  • Florals and polka dots
  • Pinstripes and animal print
  • Geometric Patterns

Mix different sized patterns

Keep the two patterns balanced by selecting a larger print to pair with a smaller pattern. For example, with the floral print and the polka dots one should be at least half the size of the other. The same goes for the stripes with florals. The larger the stripe pattern than the smaller the floral pattern should be.

This will not take as much effort as you think. It’s really quite simple and summer is a great time to introduce a splash of color into your wardrobe. Cheers!

After having to be placed on hold for quite some time, Bride & Groom’s dreams of hosting their wedding reception celebrations can once again become a reality. Many smaller yet exclusive wedding soirees are on the calendar for 2021. What to wear to a wedding in 2021? To start, invitations always set the tone of the party. Invites will give you a sense of the dress code. However, if you are still in doubt, read further on to see what to wear to a wedding 2021.  

As many of you know, my son had plans to marry at a lavish hotel in Chicago in April 2020. Originally, the guest list included over 200 people. After having to reschedule twice because of Covid, they were given the go ahead to host a reception with a 60-person limit in May of 2021. The number was to include their large bridal party, immediate family, and a few of the Bride & Grooms friends. Even though their guest count had changed, the theme and dress code remained the same, black tie optional.

Smaller wedding receptions allow bigger budgets for creativity. Do not assume smaller means less extravagant. More intimate receptions will allow couples to break away from traditional wedding receptions of the past. They will work to enhance guests’ experience, while having fun with creative decor and unique entertainment.

What to Wear to a Wedding 2021

Semi Formal/Black Tie Optional

Fewer persons does NOT mean more casual. I would select a long, floor length, sophisticated evening dress. A stylish jumpsuit in slinky fabric with dramatic earrings. Just remember to think elegant and classic.

Informal Venue during the daytime

While attending a daytime wedding, it may very well be outdoors. This will allow a little more flexibility. Choose a tea length dress with floral prints.  Never wear too many sequins during a daytime wedding. All black is appropriate if it is not too revealing.

Beach Wedding

Think about choosing comfort, especially if the weather will be warm. Bright colors, and floral prints are good choices for outdoor settings. One shoulder dresses and airy flowy looks will keep you cool and comfortable. Keep in mind that tropical beach weddings do not necessarily mean casual. Do your homework to make sure you do not show up underdressed.

Semi Casual

Pick tasteful yet comfortable dresses or dressy skirts with tops, either knee length or mid length. Sundresses are perfect if the event is outdoors. Look to add playful eye-catching accessories. Semi casual gives you flexibility, but avoid anything too casual.

Post pandemic weddings may be downsized, but they certainly will not compromise on incredible detail and ambiance.

Great News! Stein Mart is here, and available to shop online. And today, I want to share with you, how to shop online at Stein Mart. I always loved shopping in person at Stein Mart and was excited to learn about this new opportunity. I know that many of my girlfriends enjoy shopping here too. Due to the changing retail world, Stein Mart began closing physical retail locations in 2020. I can speak for a few of us that we were sad to see their store locations close. I often visited Stein Mart in both St. Charles, Illinois and Naples, Florida. However, Stein Mart is still in business and continues to happily be available to customers online.

Although their physical retail locations are now closed, you can continue to shop for the same products. It is not just about the fashion, I enjoy finding wonderful items for my home. Stein Mart is a go to store for browsing new seasonal décor, a quick gift hostess gift, or sleepwear and lingerie.  There is always something for me, and their sales are great too.

Recently, I was introduced to the Stein Mart online shopping experience. I was incredibly happy to hear that they are still here! After visiting their new website it looks like many of you will be pleasantly pleased as well.

I wanted to share with you my recent Stein Mart finds. I’m happy to tell you that I was very excited about each and every piece and will be utilizing these the best I can this season.

How to Shop Online at Stein Mart

First, this leather tote caught my eye. It is made of genuine leather and I like the stylish weave. I chose the tan color but it is also available in brown. I brought this tote with on my recent trip to Chicago. It’s large size helped to hold all my travel needs. It has pockets inside to hold your personal items and a zippered closure to keep items secure. It’s a great functional looking spring/summer bag.

I also fell for these pants! They have a textured waffle pattern and zip in the back. I felt they had a retro vibe. I first styled them with this green blouse shown here. However, I wore them again with an ivory lace blouse to brunch after my son’s wedding. They have a very flattering fit, and the color is neutral. Every time I wear these pants someone stops and asks me where I bought them. You bet they will be on repeat in my closet. Next I’m going to wear them with a white tee and a jean jacket.

A very feminine blouse with smocking and lurex detail. The green leaf pattern in this blouse is perfect for spring and summer. This blouse is very loose fitting so I would wear it tucked in. It would also look great with white or blue denim jeans. Just a hint of gold thread makes it feel fancy.

Two, four, six, eight, why do we Exfoliate!?  Exfoliating is important to do because we want to remove dead layers of skin and allow our healthy new skin to make it’s appearance. Getting rid of flaky dry skin cells will give your skin a smooth natural sheen. Sometimes referred to as body polishing because of the results, exfoliating reveals a healthy-looking glow. Exfoliating will also help to unclog pores. If you are considering using a self-tanner, then you need to read on because to get the full benefits of your self-tanner, prepping your skin beforehand is a must. Exfoliators I’ve used and liked

There are many types of products to pick and choose from. I’ve been using this Rose Exfoliator that I found on Amazon. It was something that I added to my cart at the last minute and have been happy with it!

I am also a fan of St. Ives Gentle & Smoothing Scrub. Made with rose water and aloe it is a very gentle way to exfoliate. I use this on my hands, neck chest and arms. It also leaves your skin feeling invigorated but remember to apply moisturizer afterwards.

Another brand that I have tried and recommend is Fresh. The Fresh Sugar Polish both exfoliates and hydrates your skin leaving you with a nice healthy glow.

Another important note to mention is that there are different exfoliation products designed specifically for your face and for your body. One rule I live by is to never apply anything directly on my face that does not say it is for facial use. This is true for sunscreens too. I will admit I have been in a situation where I have needed to apply sunscreen and the only one available was for your body. At that point, I choose to save my skin from burning. However, I try to be careful with only using products specifically designed for facial use on my face. This is one of my go-to sunscreens.

Dry brushing is another method of exfoliation that I have previously written about. l like dry brushing because it is invigorating and gets the blood circulating, which gives me a temporary energetic boost.

For a much gentler approach to exfoliating, I found that this facial cleanser by Tatcha was effective in boosting hydration by eliminating dead skin cells using rice powder. It smells wonderful too.

How Often Do You Exfoliate

Once again this should be determined by your individual skin type. It may be helpful to test any new products on a smaller part of your body before using. I like to exfoliate about twice a week in the evenings. And especially before I am applying self-tanner. It is easy to tell if you are over exfoliating because your skin will start to look dry. In this case, you should cut back on your skin care routine until you see a natural healthy-looking sheen.
