Like you, I have not been very social this past year. Nor, have I been too concerned about donning a face full of makeup. In fact, I have used my time at home to give my skin a much needed break. Typically, I only use a moisturizer with an SPF. However, there are still Zoom meetings, FaceTime calls, as well as the occasional dinner date. When an opportunity pops up to enjoy an evening outdoors socially these days, I get excited about doing my hair and putting on makeup. And for the record, I think my husband enjoys when I dress up too. Prep Your Skin

1. Know your skin type to decide which coverage will work best for you.

3. Have you tried using a primer? Primers will give your skin a smooth canvas to help your foundation set. I use this primer by Charlotte Tilbury.
4. Next, I always apply concealer first. I love this concealer by RMS Beauty and not just for under my eyes. Sometimes, I need to address other areas of redness such as around my nose too. However, less is more. If you feel you have applied too much, dampen a beauty sponge and lightly sweep over your face. Now, I am ready to apply my foundation. Typically, I start with just using fingers and then use a flat foundation brush or sponge to smooth it over.

5 Foundations & Tinted Moisturizers to Even Out Your Skin Tone

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation has been my go-to for over ten years. It glides on nicely and gives your skin a subtle glow with a lightweight medium coverage. A little goes a long way which helps because it is a little pricey.

Although I trust that Giorgio Armani will never fail me, I decided in my spare time to research and try a few others out for fun. During this quest I found a few more foundation must haves that will also give you fabulous coverage.

YSL Touche Éclat All In One Glow Tinted Moisturizer with SPF I’m currently using this oil-free light coverage foundation and find that it is hydrating while evening out my skin for a radiant glow. It is made with hyaluronic acid, vitamin e, and antioxidants. Plus it has SPF too. I find that this nice soft coverage works well for either day time or warm and humid Florida evenings too. I wear color B 30.

RMS Beauty Un-Cover Up Cream Foundation – A tried and true clean beauty brand I definitely recommend. A few months ago, I had the pleasure of joining in on a zoom call with founder Rose Marie Swift. I learned that as a former makeup artist with health issues herself, Rose Marie wanted to create a line of cosmetic products that did not contain toxic ingredients. Their foundation is made with cold-centrifuged coconut oil. It is rich, creamy, and the payoff is dewy skin with no harmful ingredients.

Tinted Moisturizers

Tinted moisturizers act to give you lighter coverage with hydration and the bonus of sun protection. Though, they offer less coverage than a traditional foundation, they do still work to cover up redness and even out your skin tone. As for me, I like to keep both in rotation.

Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 30 I have used this tinted moisturizer for several years in their St. Mortiz shade. It gives my skin light coverage with a nice radiant finish. It is also paraben and fragrance free. Great for normal to dry skin. If you are looking to achieve a smooth and fresh natural glow, then this one is for you.

ILIA Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 This highly rated award-winning tinted moisturizer has me curious. My daughter Brittany recently discovered it. It’s a triple threat working as a serum + light coverage + spf. It has hyaluronic acid to plump up skin, A few drops is all you need to give you glowing skin. It also uses a non-nano zinc oxide sun protection to shield your skin from harmful rays. If you are looking for a weightless sheer tint this one will give you a no fuss dewy look.

Lastly, I like to use this Charlotte Tilbury Highlighter in Medium to finish the look whether I am wearing a foundation or tinted moisturizer. It has so many uses, as I’ve been told you can also wear it alone to even out your skin tone.

I have had long hair most all my life. And, I am always looking for ways to simplify my hair styling routine. Back in 1982, after my first child was born, I decided to cut it very short to save time with styling. I had a cut angling the front portion longer than the back. It was a very trendy hairstyle at the time. However, it was not meant for my hair type. You see, my hair is thick and wavy. And, I have a lot of it. At home, when I blow dry my hair, I often try to get the look of having just left the salon with a smooth blowout. However, it is a struggle. My arms get very tired. • Let your hair air dry so that it is just damp. Never attempt to dry soaking wet hair.  
• Before I begin, I brush my wet hair. I like to use a brush like this specifically designed for use on wet hair.
• I apply this smoothing spray and then this heat protectant spray before I start drying.
• Next, I start at the bottom by clipping up the top sections. I use the brush to blow dry small sections at a time. Keeping your hair smooth underneath is just as important as smoothing out your top sections.
• Run the brush through your section a few times until it is dry making sure to curl the ends inward, framing your face.
• Never use the highest settings
• Sulfate Free Shampoos and conditioners are always a great choice. My favorite is this Pureology Brand.

I find that the Revlon One Step Hair Dryer leaves my hair smooth and straight with a nice curl at the bottom. This hair style lasts 3-4 days depending on my activities. I still enjoy pampering myself at a salon, but this tool has allowed me to love my hair again in between salon visits.

When it comes to drugstore skincare and makeup finds, I am easily intrigued. Many of these brands I have grown up with since my teens, and I trust them. Below is a list of my ten top favorite drugstore skincare and makeup finds that I swear by and have used for several years. Of course, I love to use luxury brands as well, but who does not like to save money especially when you can get the same results.

Crest White Strips– Although it’s important to have your teeth cleaned professionally, I use these white strips once a year in between cleanings to help keep my teeth white. Considering the amount of coffee I drink and the blueberries I put in my smoothies, my teeth would certainly be more stained without using these.

Neutrogena Cleansing Towelettes– These are a must when traveling because you do not need to bring along a cleanser or use a washcloth. I always have these in my suitcase. They also help to remove eye makeup. I usually rinse with water afterwards and then apply my night care regime.

Aquaphor– A great product to use on your cuticles, eyelashes, and of course to soften chapped lips. It also helps to moisturize my dry heels in wintertime. I also recommend the spray version as it helps to get those hard to reach places, like your back, in the winter months

Loreal Hydra Fresh Alcohol-Free Toner-This keeps my face feeling clean after cleansing and it also smells good

Maybelline Colossal Mascara– I like to change out my mascara often it just goes on much better when its news. For that reason, I do not want to spend a lot of money on mascara. This gives my thin lashes a lot of volume. If you’re looking to grow your lashes, I suggest checking out this post.

Maybelline Brow Pencil– I’ve been using a brow pencil since high school when I over tweezed, and my brows never grew back. This brow pencil has a brush at one end to groom your brows and then a pencil to fill in on its other end. A makeup tip I learned is to start with filling in the at the top of your brow and then define the arch. Do not forget the ends.

CeraVe Facial Moisturizer SPF 30– No matter the temperature you need to always apply sunscreen. This reasonably priced moisturizer makes it easy to avoid exposure to harmful rays all year round.

Olay Cleansing and Nourishing Body Wash-This great smelling body wash has hyaluronic acid in it to keep my skin feeling hydrated. I stopped using regular bar soap years ago and found this to be one of my favorites.

St. Ives Gentle & Smoothing Scrub; With rose water and aloe it is a very gentle way to exfoliate. I use this on my hands, neck chest and arms. It also leaves your skin feeling invigorated but remember to apply moisturizer afterwards.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser; This gentle cleanser removes your make up without drying out your skin. It was recommended to me by a dermatologist years ago when I was pregnant with my twins and breaking out. I haven’t stopped using it since.   

If you need a little stronger toner then this came highly recommended to me Thayers Facial Mist; it is witch hazel with aloe and it does not contain alcohol. If your skin is on the oily side then this will leave your skin feeling cool and clean
