What to Wear to a Fall Wedding

Crisp air and golden foliage come to mind when thinking about what to wear to a fall wedding. Whether you are attending an open-air setting, a trendy warehouse soiree, or a demure country club venue, the occasion is requiring your presence to an evening of celebration. And, why wouldn’t you plan to wear something special? Below are a few of my suggestions to guide you in your search for the right party dress.

Pink Sheath // Red Gown// Brown Midi Dress // Velvet Dress // Floral Dress

Trendy Warehouse/City Venue

Choose a more minimalist look such as solid color dresses in jewel tones, or the ever-classic black dress. If you want to add a little pop, then I suggest you wear a fun gemstone or metallic pair of strappy sandals with your dress. 

Open Air Setting

This is more of a casual environment. With that, look to wear a long maxi dresses with dark floral patterns. Or, you may want to go with a figure flattering wrap dress.  Lastly, do not forget something to keep you warm. During the fall, days start out nice, however, when evening comes a chill sets in. Make sure to have a dressy shawl or statement coat you can throw over your shoulders. 

Country Club/Hotel

In a more formal setting, go for the glitz and search for dresses in lux fabrics such as taffeta, silk and velvet. This dress from Anthropologie is available in a variety of sizes and is perfect for your fall event. Right now, off the shoulder styles and slip dresses seem to be the most popular trends.

One item you will never regret purchasing is a statement clutch. I have a few that have I have used now for several years. A statement clutch will never go out of style. The older they get, the more conversational they will become.

I love fall. It is when we can add layers just because and not when we need to for warmth. And, I always am excited about fall clothes. However, I have recently found that accessories are an inexpensive way to revitalize your wardrobe. Adding finishing touches to your fall outfit with trending accessories is brilliant. All of these pieces can be reworked into many different looks. 

What to Shop this Fall

These first two items are coming in hot!!! Definitely something you may want to consider if you are going to make one new purchase this fall season 

  • Lug Sole Shoes & Boot. This style of shoe and boot are everywhere and for a good reason. It is not just a fashion craze, it’s a comfortable walking shoe. The thicker sole style is shown in boots, loafers and sneakers too!

  • Quilted Leather Bags – Two of my top favorite styles and they both come in a variety of colors. I have had my Kurt Geiger bag now for almost two seasons. I originally purchased it for my son’s wedding. However, I’ve enjoyed wearing it out for dinner now too. It’s a great size to hold your necessities.

  • Sweaters, Blazers, and Jackets alone all make great fashion statements. And they are also very interchangeable which allow you to have more than one look. I love this one by Boston Proper. I wore it in this set of pictures with a stripe shirt from J.Crew and these skinny jeans. However, I’ve also styled it belted over a long maxi dress. I just love the pop of color too!

  • Shirt Jackets or “Shackets” are back again this season. An easy fall look when paired with an oversized sweater and leggings.   

  • Cozy & Comfortable Mania -This style is here to stay. With cool weather approaching feel-good clothing brings a smile to everyone’s face.

  • Shearling -need I explain this fad? Just seeing something made from shearling gives me an ahh… moment

Slimming Support

NYJD has slimming panels built into their denim that help lift and tuck. When ordering, I suggest sizing down from your regular size.

Levi’s 314 Shaping Straight also has a built in tummy slimming panel. The denim styles have built in stretch that will help keep them extra comfortable and not too form fitting.

This sleek pair from WHBM Cozy Fit is also designed with shaping. And Chico’s has their Slimming girlfriend jeans. When ordering from Chico’s, I would suggest sizing down one size from your regular size.

Flare Leg 

A pair of flare leg denim jeans will have a fit that is narrow at the knee and slightly tappers at the ankle. In my opinion, this is a flattering fit when work with a low heel boot like this. out is the most flattering fit when worn with a low heel bootie like these.

Mid to High Rise Denim

High-Rise jeans are very trendy, and will flatter long waisted figure types. Whereas mid rise jeans with waistlines just below the natural waist, are a better choice for short waisted figure types. 

Boyfriend Cut

Boyfriend style jeans are designed for a loose fit and to be worn baggie. Sometimes they have a more casual relaxed style and look best when styled with low boots, sneakers or wedges. This style that I am wearing in these pictures is a boyfriend style jean. The exact style is sold out, however this style is the very similar by the same brand

Skinny Jeans 

Skinny jeans fit tightly and are usually made with stretchy fabric. I have had these DL1961 Jeans for 2 years and am still a fan. I love the fabric and fit. They are designed not to stretch out, which I like. A little hard to wiggle into, but they are slimming and look great with oversized cozy sweaters. 

White Denim

Did you think I would forget to mention that you should not put away your white jeans!? You’ll want to keep them on hand because wearing white jeans after summer ends is not only a trend setting style, it brightens up a grey day. I also love this pair of DL1961 jeans. They have a built in sculpting + support. I found that like my other pair they have just the right about of stretch. And best of all, they are not see through!

Moist Chocolate Cake from Box with Sour Cream

Not everyone wakes up on a Monday morning and decides to bake a cake, but yet, I did. I was cleaning out my refrigerator and noticed that my sour cream was expiring and wanted to use it up rather than throw it away. I remembered when my children lived at home, I would make this simple chocolate sour cream cake and suddenly it made an ordinary day suddenly seem special. This moist chocolate chocolate cake from a box with sour cream doesn’t take long to make, however, it looks like it came from a bakery. If you happen to be entertaining this holiday weekend or need to bring a dessert to a BBQ ,then this silky-smooth chocolate cake will have chocolate lovers begging for the recipe!

Easy Double Chocolate Sour Cream Cake Moist Chocolate Cake from Box with Sour Cream Frosting #chocolate #cake #duncan #hines #sour #cream #easy

Cake Ingredients 

  • 1 box of Duncan Hines Chocolate Cake Mix 
  • 2 Teaspoons of Vanilla
  • 1 cup Sour Cream 
  • 2/3 cup coconut oil (vegetable oil can be substituted)
  • 4 eggs 

Frosting Ingredients:

  • One Large 6.8 ounce bar of Hershey’s Chocolate (I used dark chocolate) 

Directions for Cake

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare Bundt pan by greasing lightly. Mix all of the above cake ingredients together with a hand mixer. Pour into the greased pan. Next, smooth out the top with your spatula. Bake around 30-40 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Let cool around 10-15 minutes. Then, loosen the sides and the center with a butter knife before inverting cake onto a cake plate. After cake has cooled completely drizzle on the chocolate glaze.

Directions for Frosting

Slowly melt the Hershey chocolate bar in the microwave by breaking it into pieces and microwave for one minute on high, stir chocolate and then microwave for about 20 more seconds until completely melted. Once melted drizzle on to cake. Let chocolate harden on cake before serving.

Recently, I was told that I needed to have cataract surgery. The surgery is needed because I have developed a cataract in my left eye, which may result from aging and possibly from medications I have taken, such as steroids for my asthma. Having a cataract has caused me to have slightly blurred vision. I am also very sensitive to light when driving at night. You always have options for surgery, and right now, I am taking time and looking into all my choices.  

In the meantime, I needed an update on my eyeglasses. Before I have this surgery, I will need to wear my glasses 24/7 for at least a week before and then up to two weeks afterward. Knowing this made me want to have a pair of glasses that I liked and would be ok with wearing for long periods.

Eyebobs Review

When I went to the eyebobs website, there were many eyeglass frame styles. Yet the entire process was simple. Not to mention, I had fun with the virtual try-ons and style quiz. I took photos and saved them to my camera roll, allowing me to see how I looked. Next, I downloaded my eyeglass prescription, and before I submitted my order, thanks to an eyebob discount code, I added a pair of sunglasses. In less than two weeks, both pairs of glasses arrived. 

When I decide to have eye surgery, my prescription will likely change. Surgery to remove the cataract is considered a medical procedure. However, my insurance will not cover going further with Lasik surgery to improve my eyesight. I could be responsible for the elective portion, which could range between $4000- $8000.

Sarah Flint Shoes Review -The”Perfect Pump”

When looking to select a shoe from Sarah Flint, I was excited because I had heard many good things about her company. What impressed me was that Sarah Flint shoes are handcrafted and 100% made in Italy. They have a variety of colors + heel heights available. I did ponder a bit while making my choice as there are many cute styles. However, I eventually I decided to go with a closet staple, her 2-inch or 50mm perfect pump in nude. I found that the 50mm height was perfect for me. After having undergone two hip replacement surgeries my days of wearing sky high heels are few and far between. The 50mm works for me, because I can wear it all night without thinking about my feet. And that’s a good thing!

A neutral pump should be right alongside your classic black styles as your go-to shoe. When worn, a neutral pump will not only elongate your leg, but it also elevates a casual outfit to the next level. 

The shoes arrived beautifully packaged. And, it was a real treat to open up the new pair. I have worn them already quite a few times and am very happy to report that they are just as comfortable as advertised. I felt that the footbed was supportive because they are designed with special arch support. Plus, they have 6mm of extra footbed padding. Not to mention, I didn’t feel any pinching in my toes.
